How this calculator works
The calculator combines three cost layers:
- USCIS / DOS government fees — fixed by regulation. We use the current 2026 fee schedule.
- Premium processing — optional but worth budgeting for time-sensitive roles. Adds $2,805 per case for a 15-day decision instead of 3-6 months.
- Legal fees (estimated) — Made Simple’s flat-fee range. We disclose the exact figure during the strategy call once we’ve seen the role and the candidate’s profile.
The estimate is intentionally a range rather than a single figure — the actual number depends on specifics like company size (which affects the ACWIA fee), case complexity, and whether premium processing is filed at petition or later.
What the calculator doesn’t include
A few costs that fall outside this estimate:
- Translation and apostille of foreign documents (typically $200-$800 per case, depending on language and document count)
- Travel and visa stamping at the consulate (paid by the employee or reimbursed by the employer per company policy)
- Relocation expenses — moving costs, temporary housing, etc.
- Recruitment and onboarding — internal HR costs
For a complete budget, add roughly 5-15% to the calculator total to cover these miscellaneous items.
When to schedule the strategy call
Use the calculator to set initial expectations. Then schedule a strategy call when you’re ready to:
- Confirm the right visa for a specific role and candidate
- Get a binding flat-fee quote
- Understand the timeline for your specific case
- Review any complications (LCA wage levels, prior status issues, etc.)
The strategy call is 30 minutes, no charge, and gives you everything you need to budget and plan accurately.
